You’re probably thinking to yourself, why on earth Spenny wanted to get into radio? What if I told you that I have been on this mission since 2012, but it started to take off in 2018! Well, let’s dive into it shall we. Watching Craig Ferguson, Conan O’Brian, David Letterman, I always had a passion in becoming a talk show host. When I was in grade 11, what came into mind was what educational path would make this dream job a reality. Everyone else at the time wanted to go into careers in the medical field and the law enforcement. Not any of them wanted to be in the media aspect of things. I felt like the lone wolf, and thinking about it now, it was a really good thing that was the case.
I started to dive into more research and I found that most of the talk show hosts were involved in media, in order for them to be offered the opportunity in becoming a late night talk show host. So fast forwarding to 2018, I started to save with every paycheck to get into the Radio Broadcasting program at Mohawk College. Meanwhile, I did not want to wait until September of 2022 to start my career, so I started a YouTube Channel to get my foot in the door and start my passion. I am not going to lie; there was a lot of work that need to be done, and not talking about the camera quality. I wanted to improve my talking skills. As the years went on, my communication skills improved incredibly! It’s come to the point where my roommates want just me to text our landlord because of my communication skills. And with me in the Radio Broadcasting program, it has helped me even more, especially on a professional level.
But wait just a second. Here is another curveball that I am about to though at you! What if I told you that it was not just the late night talk show host that made we want to get into radio? Believe it or not, it was also the Detroit Red Wings local radio station that also made me want to get into the career of Radio. Yes, 97.1 the Ticket! First off, I love my Detroit Red Wings, and I would love to watch the game and then tune into the Radio after the game and listen to the post game analysis. It was also a thrill when they get callers in, so they can hear the fans opinions about the game. I believe as the semester’s progress, I do hope they will teach us how to get callers into our radio station, so we can talk with our fans! The future is looking bright and I am super excited to see more awesomeness with this program!
